How to Create a Multilingual WordPress Site?
When it's a CMS website, and you are looking for the most straightforward solution, wordpress is always the best choice, and if your need is a multilingual website, wordpress makes it so easy for you.
Building a multi-language site in the WordPress platform involves several steps, including choosing a correct multilingual plugin, translating content, and managing language-specific settings.
How Do I Make My WordPress Multilingual Website With Plugin?
Of course, several multilingual plugins are available in the WordPress directory, but here we will discuss Weglot and how we can turn single-language WordPress into multilingual with Weglot.
Step 1: Install + Active the Weglot Plugin; you can download it from the directory or visit www.weglot.com and download it from there.
Weglot’s multilingual plugin lets you easily create multilingual site pages, posts, and forms with minimal setup.
Step 2: Configure the Settings
Once the Weglot plugin is activated on your website, you must configure its settings. To do this, open your WordPress dashboard and click on the Weglot main configuration screen.
We need to configure the API key on the plugin sitting for that login to Weglot in another tab and find your API key. Once you get the key paste your API Key into the API Key area in the plugin settings page.
Next, click on the dropdown menu and confirm the main/default language of your WordPress website. So that weglot knows which language to translate from.
In this post, we will keep English since that’s the default language for accuweb.
For the next step, specify the language(s) you want your site translated into.
Now, you can adjust advanced settings, including your flag icon, AMP settings, and exclusions.
We can also apply advanced settings like setup flag icon, AMP Pages settings, and exclusions.
If you don't want to make any changes, scroll down to the bottom of the settings page & click Save Changes button.
Well, that's it! Your website is supported multilingual now. Visitors to your WordPress website can see the flag icon right on the front end.
Your site visitors can now switch your website's language by clicking on other flag icons accessible from the settings.
Step 3: Edit Weglot Default Translations
Once your Weglot plugin’s settings are configured on your site, you may want to edit your Default translations if you want to.
Weglot automatically translates everything for your website, but you can do it easily if you want to tweak certain words. Click on the Edit My Translations button in the top right of your Dashboard from the settings screen from the last step.
Clicking this will lead you to the translations page inside your Weglot account dashboard. You can also access that here.
There is also different setting and option available in Weglot to edit automatic translations for your wordpress website.
You can review tutorials available on the Weglot site for WordPress language switcher for a more helpful guide.
That's it; this is all required to convert your single-language website into a multilingual one without any developer's help.
